Stephen Colbert Made A Female Star Wars Trailer Just To Troll Angry Fans

In the Star Wars universe, one of the big stories this week had to do with new Star Wars: The Last Jedi actress Kelly Marie Tran leaving social media allegedly after dealing with trolls and harassment online. Coming to her defense were people like Rian Johnson and Mark Hamill, but Stephen Colbert has taken things a step further, creating his own original Star Wars trailer just for all the trolls out there. As part of his monologue late last week, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert opened up about the potential Rose Tico issue, noting that there is "some troubling news from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" before recounting what reportedly happened to Kelly Marie Tran on social media. Colbert then proceeded to talk about the attacks on the "beautiful, talented young actress" before revealing he and the Late Show team had created their own version of Star Wars for all the trolls out there. In this version, Rose Tico is the hero. She is joined by Rey, who cut off the penises of popular characters like Kylo Ren and Poe Dameron and sent them into a deep, dark hole, leaving room for the ladies to take over the franchise. (Poor Finn isn't even mentioned.)

The whole thing is specifically designed for the trolls, and not even just people who like trolling the Star Wars franchise. The rest of the fake trailer reveals the "movie" will be populated by the female ghostbusters, the new female Doctor Who and even a lady wearing a Rick & Morty t-shirt---all the things trolls on the Internet love to hate. But the real clincher? Chewbacca was a woman this whole time. That's right Chewie fans, that's not a bromance between Chewie and Han, after all.

On a serious note, there were a lot of people who weren't pleased with the way Rose Tico was written in the 2017 movie, and many of those people have been vocal about their displeasure. Still, it's one thing to not be pleased about a character and to talk about criticisms in a calm manner with an even tone. It's another thing to go online and troll the person who played that character and make them feel bad about their race or gender. It's not the first time a Star Wars actress has left social media, either. Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey in the franchise, left Instagram in 2016 after not being able to deal with people online, either. While Kelly Marie Tran hasn't outright said she left social media due to the trolls, it's not difficult to see why people online have made a connection.

On another note, if Stephen Colbert ever does decide to partner with Disney and Lucasfilm for an absurdist Star Wars comedy film, I'm all in. Because if there's anything the galaxy far, far away could use right now, it's probably a little levity. For now, if you didn't mind Rose Tico, she'll be back in Star Wars Episode IX, which is going to hit theaters on December 20, 2019. Here's what we know about the upcoming project.

The Walking Deads Ross Marquand Is Ready For Another Marvel Role

Spoilers ahead for Avengers: Infinity War. Read at your own risk!

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a decade and twenty movies into its run, and showing no signs of slowing down. Given the massive popularity of the genre, a wide array of acting talent have joined the shared universe, ranging from bonafide heroes to supporting players. And some actors have even played multiple roles, like Luke Cage's Alfre Woodard. Walking Dead actor Ross Marquand actually made his MCU debut replacing Hugo Weaving as Red Skull in Avengers: Infinity War, and recently revealed the Marvel hero he'd like to inhabit in a future appearance. Marquand said,

Oh yes--Moon Knight! It's tough because a lot of my friends have said Moon Knight is essentially just Marvel's answer to Batman, but I don't agree with that. I agree that there are similarities, but Moon Knight was a mercenary--kind of a gun for hire who didn't really have much regard for people before he had his moment of awakening, I guess. And Bruce was always a good guy--even as a kid, he was torn by revenge, but he wasn't this bloodthirsty killer like Moon Knight was. So I think that, coupled with what they've been doing the last 15 years with the character--going into the dissociative identity disorder, really calling in to question if everything happening is all in his head, is he actually a vigilante killer or did he die in Egypt? It brings up a slew of questions, and that to me has never really been delved into in any comic book character before--the idea of, is any of this actually happening? Is he crazy? Is he killing good people? Is he actually dead in Egypt? Those are such amazing questions and I don't feel like any comic book series before or since has really tapped into that. So for me, playing a crazy superhero would be awesome. So Moon Knight, Moon Knight for sure.

Give the guy a white cloak, because we may have the first live-action Moon Knight of all time. Rather than attempting to book a better known hero, Ross Marquand is ready to don the cape and abilities of Marc Spector-- just don't compare him to DC's Batman.

Ross Marquand's comments to AIPT prove how much the actor is a fan of comic book characters, and how ready he is to have a larger role in the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe. Because while he's already played comic characters in The Walking Dead's Aaron and Captain America villain Red Skull, he's ready to join the Avengers and Guardians on the side of good and maybe even get his own movie in the process.

Moon Knight is a Marvel hero originally named Marc Spector. When first created, he was the son of a Rabbi who fled Europe to escape the Holocaust. A boxer, marine, and eventual mercenary, Spector's life changes when he's brought to a tomb in a desperate attempt to safe his life in the field. He was brought back to life by ancient Moon God Khonshu, and dons his cloak in order to fight crime as Moon Knight.

The comparisons of Batman and Moon Knight likely come from their shared skills in martial arts and similar costumes. Marc Spector also develops a billionaire playboy persona, which is a bit similar to Bruce Wayne. But where Bruce relies on his vast resources, Moon Knight is given certain abilities from the moon itself, and therefore has a more mystical origin.

However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, this is far from the case, and in fact, part of the reshoots was to add a "secret" cameo. In the report, it is revealed that "Deadpool 2" did, in fact, have reshoots last month, but they only shot for six days, which is three less than they did for the original "Deadpool" reshoots.

Early Deadpool 2 Concept Art Shows A Very Different Look For Domino

Few could have anticipated the impact that Deadpool 2's Domino would've had on audiences. Atlanta actress Zazie Beetz proved herself as a force to be reckoned with alongside heavy-hitters like Ryan Reynolds and Josh Brolin, establishing herself as a fan-favorite. Beetz played a significant role in the success of the character, but now it looks like newly-revealed artwork made before the actress was cast aimed for a very different look for the character. Check out the pieces of concept art revealed by artist Alexander Lozano, below!

That's not quite the Domino that we eventually got, is it? Obviously the first thing to note about this concept art is the fact that the Domino teased in the images is a white woman, which makes sense, as Domino is traditionally portrayed as a white character in the pages of Marvel comics. However, beyond that, the heroine's look is also far more tactical and less flamboyant in this art, offering up a heavily armed look that almost feels closer to someone like The Winter Soldier from the MCU than a member of Wade Wilson's X-Force.

One of the other key things worth noting about this concept art is the bigger emphasis on heavy weapons and guns in Domino's outfit. She's armed in the movie, but some of her best moments come when she goes hand-to-hand against her enemies. By contrast, it looks like this version of the character could've been more akin to a support role, using sniper rifles and machine guns.

The evolution of Domino makes quite a bit of sense when we consider just how much Deadpool 2 evolved over the course of its development. This art was conceptualized in the earliest stages of the process, back when original Deadpool director Tim Miller was still involved in the process. However, Miller dropped out before production, and Atomic Blonde's David Leitch eventually stepped in to provide his own unique, creative stamp on this world and the characters who inhabit it.

Of course, in the end, we got Zazie Beetz in the role, and her version of Domino became a widely-praised element of the film. Her afro and darker skin (coupled with a white mark around her eye, rather than a black one) make her distinct from most on-page incarnations of Domino, but her spunky attitude and badass power set (which became far more cinematic than Wade would've anticipated) helped establish her for mainstream audiences. That, along with Beetz's own ability to trade barbs with Ryan Reynolds (who is already no slouch in the smartass one-liner department) made her a standout in a film full of standouts.

Deadpool 2 is now available on Digital HD, with the 4K Ultra, Blu-ray and DVD versions of the film hitting shelves later this month on August 21.
