Parks And Rec's Ben Schwartz Wants To Play A DC Hero, And It's The Perfect Choice

In recent years, we have seen the superhero genre evolve to include some deep-cut characters. Iron Man's release showed that heroes didn't need to be household names to make serious money, and Suicide Squad showed that C-list villains could intermingle in the DCEU. With all of that in mind, it looks like Parks and Recreation actor Ben Schwartz is now campaigning to get Plastic Man brought to the silver screen DC world, and he wants the role. The actor tweeted:

There's a strong case to be made that someone like Ben Schwartz could do some solid work as Patrick "Eel" O'Brian, a.k.a Plastic Man. Ever since the character's first appearance back in the 1940s, his adventures in DC Comics have largely been defined by a wisecracking, offbeat sense of humor. Similarly, Ben Schwartz has made a name for himself with strong comedic performances on Parks and Recreation and DuckTales, so he arguably would make for a solid fit in this particular role. Per the actor's social post, it looks like he's ready to do anything to get the part.

Honestly, we're fairly on board with this idea too. After all, who wouldn't want to see Plastic Man singing in a solo movie of his very own?

As his name would seemingly suggest, Plastic Man is an extremely malleable individual with the ability to stretch, contort and move his body in insane ways. He has appeared in a large number of classic storylines and properties, like Flashpoint, Injustice _and _Young Justice, but he has never actually shown up in a live-action film; perhaps it's time for that to change. After all, if Ben Schwartz gets cast as Plastic Man, he could always call up his former Parks and Recreation co-star Chris Pratt to ask for advice about stepping into this type of world.

It's also worth mentioning the fact that this seems like an avenue that DC films are increasingly willing to explore. Justice League and Wonder Woman both featured considerably more lighthearted moments than movies like Man of Steel or Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and some evidence has suggested that this will continue with the upcoming release of David F. Sandberg's Shazam! With the DCEU showing more love to the more bizarre and fun elements of the overarching DC lore, there's ample room for someone like Ben Schwartz to step in and take on a role like Plastic Man.

Only time will tell if Ben Schwartz will ever get a chance to play Plastic Man in a DC movie. Until we learn more about the upcoming DC slate of films, make sure to mark down the December 21 release of Aquaman on your calendars and stay tuned for more DCEU updates!

What Mark Hamill Thinks Of The Solo: A Star Wars Story Trailer

After what felt like an overlong wait with a great deal of hand-wringing, we finally got our first look at Solo: A Star Wars Story earlier this week with a Super Bowl tease and a trailer. Naturally, since this is a Star Wars movie (and one with much publicized production trouble), a lot of people have opinions regarding what they have seen so far, and not everyone is thrilled about what they've seen from the new take on the beloved character. But who better to ask about the film than the man who acted opposite Harrison Ford for three films, Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill? Always one to give his honest and unfiltered opinion, here's what Mark Hamill thought of the trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story:

I don't know what anybody's complaining about. The trailer makes you want to see the movie and I'm dying to see it, so it worked.

You can always count on Mark Hamill to tell it like he sees it and not give some political answer to avoid riling the fickle Star Wars fanbase. Mark Hamill is no stranger to people having varied opinions about Star Wars films, having just come off of The Last Jedi, which is probably even more divisive than the generational divide that exists between Prequel lovers and haters. The trailer has sold Mark Hamill on at least seeing the movie and here's the thing, even the fans who didn't love the trailer will still see the film, even if it's just to complain about it later, that's the power of Star Wars. Speaking with ET, Mark Hamill is also coming at this from a slightly different perspective than Star Wars: The Last Jedi. First off, he's not in it and secondly it is not his character that has a new story and is being tackled by a new actor.

There is a lot in the trailer that does make you want to see the movie. Emilia Clarke and Woody Harrelson in a galaxy far, far away, are both a treat, and some people are calling for a Lando movie after seeing a glimpse of Donald Glover's take on the character. Bradford Young's cinematography looks breathtaking. In addition, this story looks like something truly new and different that still feels like Star Wars. The real challenge is that this is not a new character and it may be difficult for fans to accept a new actor as Han Solo. For me, the trailer sold me on everything but Alden Ehrenreich, who I'm looking to see as Han Solo, not Harrison Ford. But this was a short trailer and not enough of a sample size to make any definitive judgment. Only the movie can do that.

There were some hopes that after the divisive Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Ron Howard's Solo: A Star Wars Story could heal the fractured fanbase with a return to a beloved character and a return to an old school Star Wars feel. The early marketing may not be 100% there, but we have months to go and a whole slew of marketing ahead of us. Solo: A Star Wars Story arrives in theaters on May 25th.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 May Be Looking At These Four Directors

It's been nearly four full months since James Gunn was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and while there were various efforts to get him back onto the threequel, that ship has sailed. Gunn has now joined the Distinguished Competition to write (and possibly direct) Suicide Squad 2, and although production has been delayed, Marvel Studios is nonetheless searching for another director to helm Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. If a new report is to be believed, this project's directorial future is female.

According to SuperBroMovies, among the directors currently on Marvel's shortlist for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 are Dee Rees, Michelle MacLaren, S.J. Clarkson and Jane Campion. Keep in mind that even if these women are truly in consideration for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, that doesn't mean any of them will necessarily get the job. There could be other names being kicked around, and we also can't discount that someone could snag the gig who's never even rumored. Nevertheless, let's go over each of these four women's resumes.

Dee Rees made her feature film making debut with 2008's Eventual Salvation, and nearly a decade later, she delivered the Academy Award-nominated Netflix movie Mudbound. Earlier this year, Rees praised Ryan Coogler's work on Black Panther, so maybe she'd be interested in contributing to the MCU.

Michelle MacLaren is best known for directing episodes of TV shows like Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and The Deuce, but she'll soon make the jump to the big screen with Cowboy Ninja Viking. MacLaren was also originally supposed to direct Wonder Woman, but due to creative differences, she stepped away and Patty Jenkins replaced her. Maybe Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could be MacLaren's opportunity to return to the superhero genre.

Like Michelle MacLaren, S.J. Clarkson has an impressive TV resume, which includes Dexter, Jessica Jones and The Defenders, among many others. Back in April, Clarkson was hired to direct Star Trek 4, but since that movie is currently in limbo due to Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth stepping away, one wonders if she could be pulled from that to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Finally, Jane Campion is arguably best known for directing 1993's The Piano, which earned her an Academy Award for Best Director nomination. Campion is currently overseeing the TV series Top of the Lake, but Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could be a way for her to leave a mark in the world of blockbuster filmmaking.

Something tells me we'll hear about more directors being eyed for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in the near future, but these names are a promising start. Obviously it'll be difficult whoever is hired as the new director to fill James Gunn's shoes and bring the same kind of energy he infused into the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies, but at least they won't lack in the talent department.
